A Former Prosecutor
An Experienced Criminal Law Attorney
Atlanta, Georgia
My name is Clay R. Thompson, and I have worked in the criminal law field for nearly 20 years. My career began as an investigator. I then graduated from law school and began working as a prosecutor in the very same court.
In 1998, I began working exclusively as a criminal defense lawyer. In the time that has passed since, I have represented clients from all walks of life — people facing all types of felonies and misdemeanor charges, and hailing from counties in the Atlanta metro area and across the entire state.
I believe that my experience as a prosecutor gives me an edge when I defend those accused of serious crimes
Why is that? For one thing, I understand how the Solicitor’s Office and District Attorney’s Office work. I know what resources they have at their disposal, what strategies they use to convict and how they are likely to view the case.
I analyze criminal cases from both the prosecution and defense perspectives. This allows for a more accurate assessment of the evidence and of the strengths or weaknesses of any given case.
Because of all of this — I have developed the good sense to know when to fight and when to push for a dismissal, significantly reduced charges or a meaningful departure from sentencing guidelines. However, I am also able to recognize when strategic negotiation is the better approach.
Whatever the situation — the one promise I do make is that I will work hard to achieve the best possible outcome for each and every person I represent.

If you or someone close to you has been arrested, please realize that time is in short supply and that the sooner you speak with a lawyer (any experienced defense lawyer, even if it's not me) — the better your chances will be to minimize the damage.
If you are interested in talking to me about your defense — call or contact me any time of day, seven days a week. I am available for appointments during and after office hours, and if needed, outside of the office as well.
In most cases, I work on a flat-fee basis. I accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express credit cards and have affordable payment plans available.
